Distinctive traits
Blanchon is easily recognized by its two round scars on either side of its dorsal crest. She also bears a series of small depressions on her right flank.
Life history
We first met Blanchon in 1987. By then, she was already completely white. She was therefore born before 1975.
Her small size, her habits and her presence in groups of adults and juveniles lead us to believe that Blanchon is a female from the upstream community on the south shore.
This beluga frequents the Upper Estuary up to Île aux Coudres, the western limit of its summer distribution. In summer, the population is concentrated in the estuary between Île aux Coudres and Forestville (Upper North Shore) and Île du Bic (South Shore), as well as in the Saguenay Fjord.
