Adopt a beluga

A kind philanthropic gesture, adopting a beluga allows you to pair up an individual, organization, business, school or group with a St. Lawrence beluga. Thanks to photo-identification, the belugas available for adoption have been known to our research team for years. They have a life story to which you can contribute.

When you adopt a beluga known to researchers, you support scientific research; you participate in the search for solutions; you increase awareness of belugas and their plight; you show your attachment to the St. Lawrence and its inhabitants.

How it works?

  1. Choose your beluga from amongst those featured in the photo-ID family album. No need to provide it with food or shelter… we’ll keep an eye on your beluga for you out on the water.
  2. Come up with a name. This name will then be used to designate this beluga in all our official communications.
  3. To complete the adoption, make your donation of $5,000. These funds will support researchers in their work under the St. Lawrence Beluga Project. We
    We encourage sponsors to renew their donation twice more, to symbolize the three years a female takes care of her calf. You have a smaller budget? Participate in a collective adoption.
  4. Receive an adoption certificate as well as your beluga’s personal story and each year, get updates on researchers’ encounters with your protégé;

Thanks to our sponsors!

Since 1988, more than 150 belugas found a sponsor. Thanks to every one who joined the family and supported the cause of the St. Lawrence estuary belugas.

Help other organization

Several other groups are involved in scientific research on whales and the conservation of St. Lawrence ecosystems. Helping them will also have beneficial impacts on whales. We regularly collaborate with the Mingan Islands Cetacean Studies (MICS) and the Meriscope.
