Distinctive traits
DL9148 can be recognized by a large, complex black spot on its left flank, just below the dorsal crest. This beluga has several scars of various shapes in front of and below the black spot. DL9148 also has a small notch in the center of the dorsal crest.
Life history
Our first encounter with DL9148 was in 2022. At the time, it was gray. Beluga whales change color from gray to white between the ages of 12 and 16. It was still gray in 2023, when it was last seen.
DL9148 swims in groups composed of adults, young grays and calves.
