Life history

We first met DL9097 in 2019. Back then, she was still gray. She was dirty white in 2022. Beluga whales change color from gray to white between the ages of 12 and 16. He would therefore have been born around 2006.

She has been observed among adults and young gray whales, as well as with adults, young gray whales and calves.

A biopsy was done in 2019 and determined that DL9097 is a female.

The rest of DL9097’s story will tell us a lot about the evolution of the beluga’s social life. It’s by understanding how belugas live that we’ll be able to better protect them.
