Life history
We first met DL9060 in 2015. At the time, he was still gray. Beluga whale color change, from gray to white, occurs between the ages of 12 and 16.
It has been observed among groups composed exclusively of adults, among adults and young grays, and with adults, young grays and calves.
The rest of DL9060’s story will tell us a lot about the evolution of beluga whale social life. By understanding how belugas live, we can better protect them.
