Distinctive traits
DL9033 can be recognized by the complex black spot at the front of its dorsal crest. The mark is not quite on top of the flank : it’s a little lower down on the right flank. There are also two small notches at the beginning of the crest. The left flank of DL9033 has never been photographed, so it can only be identified from the right.
Life history
We first met DL9033 in 2010. At the time, he was already immaculately white. Beluga whales change color from gray to white between the ages of 12 and 16. He would therefore have been born before 1998.
DL9033 was observed among groups of adults, young grays and calves.
The rest of DL9033’s story will tell us a lot about the evolution of the social life of belugas. By understanding how belugas live, we can better protect them.
Adopt DL9033
It costs $5,000 a year to adopt a beluga. There are two ways to adopt a beluga : on your own, in your name or that of your company, or as part of a group.
