Conference: Finding Ways of Reducing the Threat of Vessel Traffic on Whales and Other Marine Mammals through Detection and Avoidance

Harald Yurk is a bioacoustics specialist with the Aquatic Ecosystems and Marine Mammals Division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Vancouver. Over the past 25 years, his research has focused on the acoustics of killer whales. He is currently working for the Oceans Protection Plan to reduce the risk of collision between ships and whales, particularly with southern resident killer whales. He is studying options for whale detection and alerts to ships as well as other management measures to mitigate the impact of the maritime traffic.

He will give a conference at the Center of Interpretation on Marine Mammals in Tadoussac, on July 24, at 8 pm. Come and join us to learn more about Harald Yurk work. The talk is about finding ways of reducing the threat of vessel traffic on whales and other marine mammals.
