However, the COVID-19 crisis has forced them to reconsider their plans for the summer. Instead of kicking off field work to study marine mammals in early June as planned, most of them stayed in their offices, making arrangements for working remotely and revising their calendars. Nearly every aspect of their work has been affected by the pandemic. To better understand the pitfalls they have had to deal with, the <em>Whales Online <\/em>team spoke with three researchers: <a href=\"https:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/decouvrir\/la-recherche-sur-les-baleines\/les-chercheurs\/dany-zbinden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dany Zbinden<\/a>, director of M\u00e9riscope, <a href=\"https:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/decouvrir\/la-recherche-sur-les-baleines\/les-chercheurs\/anik-boileau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anik Boileau<\/a>, director of the Sept-\u00celes Education and Research Centre\u00a0(CERSI) and <a href=\"https:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/decouvrir\/la-recherche-sur-les-baleines\/les-chercheurs\/robert-michaud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Michaud<\/a>, president of the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Normally, whale experts up and down the St. Lawrence would have begun their research a long time ago.
