{"id":50839,"date":"2016-05-27T21:13:53","date_gmt":"2016-05-27T21:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/une-semaine-riche-en-emotions\/"},"modified":"2020-05-13T17:58:38","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T17:58:38","slug":"a-week-full-of-emotions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/a-week-full-of-emotions\/","title":{"rendered":"A Week Full of Emotions!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pairs of harbour porpoises in <strong>Franquelin<\/strong>, four fin whales off of <strong>Tadoussac<\/strong>, a large rorqual in Baie-des-Sables in the <strong>Gasp\u00e9<\/strong> and in the Saguenay\u2013St. Lawrence Marine Park, nearly a dozen minke whales in the <strong>Estuary<\/strong>, and some one hundred belugas scattered in the <strong>mouth of the Saguenay<\/strong>: the numbers are impressive and it isn&#8217;t even June yet! But what is especially impressive are these stories of whales that have aroused emotions in a number of St. Lawrence observers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19112\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19112\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19112 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/BLV140909_1002-250x166.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 GREMM\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beluga visible below the surface \u00a9 GREMM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On 22 May, our collaborator in Baie-des-Sables in the Gasp\u00e9 wrote, &#8220;this morning at 7:45, my first observation of 2016 was a bit frustrating despite my joy of finally seeing my first whale! I would tend to think that it was a fin whale, but the last time it surfaced made me lean more toward a humpback. It was about 1\u00a0km from shore&#8230; I can&#8217;t decide!&#8221; The next day, observers on board a cruise ship were excited and moved by the visit of a group of three curious belugas playfully frolicking in the greenish waters of the Estuary, replete with their characteristic &#8220;smirks&#8221;. A rare visit and an unforgettable moment for many visitors!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19113\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19113 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/BAT150826_2010-250x161.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 GREMM\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19113\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minke whale surface feeding \u00a9 GREMM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then, in Franquelin on the North Shore, our observer enthusiastically shared her May 25 observation: &#8220;For 20 minutes I was able to observe a minke whale breaching repeatedly while feeding! We were even able to see his whole head out of the water!\u00a0It was quite impressive! This same spectacle was also related by a naturalist who was plying the waters off the Tadoussac dunes. The morning of Friday, May 27, the naturalist declared, &#8220;the young humpback was seen offshore yesterday morning, opposite the Centre Archeo Topo in Les Bergeronnes. The funny thing is that it was spotted because it was <a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/whales-of-the-st-lawrence\/life-and-evolution\/mysterious-behaviours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">breaching<\/a>!&#8221; Many individuals also enjoyed the images of the humpback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=i-dQvuA5r7A&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gaspar<\/a>\u00a0who was launching himself into the air in Gasp\u00e9 Bay a little over a week ago.
