This week, we were not spared by the strong winds. We still managed to make a few trips out onto the river and find animals where the conditions were a little calmer, but unfortunately it never lasted long. Following a herd of belugas amidst a sea of whitecaps is no easy task, just like staying on one&#8217;s feet on the roof of the <em>Bleuvet<\/em> to photo-ID these animals in two-metre high waves! The encounters were therefore often brief.<\/p>\n<p>The more benign conditions of the Saguenay, however, enabled us to prolong our working days a bit, but there were few animals in the Fjord this week. We were in for a pleasant surprise: we crossed paths with Cumulus \u2013 the last observation of whom dates back to October 2, 2013 \u2013 accompanied by five other males coming out of Baie Sainte-Marguerite and heading down the Saguenay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click on the map to navigate with the\u00a0<em>Bleuvet<\/em>\u00a0and discover the highlights of the week!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1k8P7UPBk0wSCRViDygYfkJONii4\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>IDENTIFICATIONS OF THE WEEK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/adopt-a-beluga\/blanchon2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blanchon<\/a>\u2013 adopted in 2016 by Yolande Simard Perrault;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/adopt-a-beluga\/cumulus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cumulus<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 adopted in 1990\u00a0by students of the C\u00e9gep de Saint-F\u00e9licien;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/adopt-a-beluga\/miss-frontenac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miss Frontenac<\/a> \u2013 adopted in 2008 by Fairmont Le Ch\u00e2teau Frontenac;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/en\/adopt-a-beluga\/dorothy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dorothy<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 adopted in 2016 by\u00a0Mathijs and Anneke Wittink\u00a0and\u00a0Adelaide Gomer;<\/p>\n<p>as well as DL1551, DL2450 and DL0237.<\/p>\n<p>The complete list of identified belugas requires meticulous efforts to match individuals, which will be undertaken once the field season has come to a close.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/BLV120820_1123.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-13476\" src=\"http:\/\/baleinesendirect.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/BLV120820_1123-150x100.jpg\" alt=\"BLV120820_1123\" \/><\/a>Property of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gremm.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GREMM<\/a>\u00a0and the St. Lawrence National Institute of Ecotoxicology, the\u00a0<\/em>Bleuvet<em>\u00a0is a research boat dedicated to the research program on St. Lawrence belugas.
