They were seen in Florida on December 28, 2018 and January 13, 2019 and are the first of the calving season, which generally runs from November to February. According to Julie Albert, coordinator for the Marine Resources Council, we can expect more births before the end of the season, as \u201c5 of the 6 whales spotted this season may have been pregnant females,\u201d she reports to the\u00a0<em>Daytona Beach News-Journal<\/em>. Low birth rates have been observed in this endangered species since 2010. Each birth therefore represents a tiny step toward an eventual recovery.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201c5 of the 6 whales spotted this season may have been pregnant females,\u201d she reports.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update of 12 February 2019: A fifth and a sixth calf has been confirmed.
