Distinctive traits

Jasper’s distinctive feature is the long succession of linear, dotted scars on part of his left flank. The dorsal crest, on the other hand, contains enough detail to distinguish it from the right flank.

Life history

Jasper was first observed in 1987. His color was already an immaculate white. He was therefore born before 1971.

His large size, habits and social affiliations clearly indicated that Jasper was a male. On July 31, 1997, a biopsy confirmed this. Jasper is a regular sighting in the Saguenay Fjord. He is part of one of the two male networks in the Saguenay.

In summer, this male frequents the Saguenay and its mouth, as well as part of the Lower Estuary. What about winter? The population moves downstream in the estuary (between Forestville and Pointe-des-Monts) and into the northern part of the Gulf.

Latest news

Jasper is seen off Les Escoumins. The herd is made up of around thirty all-white adult belugas. The distribution of animals is very wide, but we manage to take several photos of belugas with interesting physical characteristics. At the end of the day, among this herd, we recognize another male : Trèfle.
