Distinctive traits

Lou-Lou is recognizable by its large, half-moon-shaped notch in the dorsal crest. It also has two scars on its left flank.

Life history

The only two times we observed Lou-Lou, in 1986 and 1990, it was entirely white. It would have been born before 1970.

The lack of data on its habits and affiliations means we can’t identify the areait frequents, or its sex.

When we observed Lou-Lou, it was near the Kamouraska islands. Adults in this area rarely seem to be seen in any other part of the beluga’s summer range. In summer, there is sexual segregation between males and females, and the groups are very faithful in their movements and the habitats they frequent.

Latest news

Lou-Lou was last seen over twenty years ago. What happened to it? Did it die? Has it remained invisible to the eye of the researcher all this time? Impossible to know at the moment. One thing is certain : its story is a valuable source of information for our knowledge of this fragile population.
